Step-by-Step Guide to Voter Registration
Who can Register to Vote?
To register as a voter in South Africa, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 16 years or older.
- Have a South African identity document (ID) either a green ID book or a smartcard ID or a valid temporary ID certificate.
Documents Required for Registration
Before you can complete your voter registration, you will need the following documents:
- ID number
- Name and surname
- Mobile number
Step-by-Step Registration Process
- Visit the official IEC website.
- Click on the "Register to Vote" tab.
- If you are a first-time user, create an account.
- Enter your personal details.
- Enter the One-Time Pin (OTP) sent to your cellphone.
- Search for your address or use the current location on your device.
- Take a photo of your ID OR submit a scan of your ID.
Additional Information
Once you have completed the registration process, you will receive a confirmation SMS. You can check your registration status by visiting the Voter Information Portal site.
