Scotland 2 3 Poland Nations League As It Happened

Scotland Suffer Nations League Relegation After Poland Defeat

Tartan Army To Drop Down To League B After 3-2 Home Defeat

Scotland's hopes of avoiding relegation from the Nations League were dashed on Tuesday night as they suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Poland at Hampden Park.

Jack Hendry gave the hosts the lead in the sixth minute, but Poland hit back with two goals from Krzysztof Piatek and Arkadiusz Milik before half-time.

John McGinn equalised for Scotland 10 minutes into the second half, but Poland's substitute Karol Swiderski netted a winner 12 minutes from time.

The defeat means Scotland will drop down to League B of the Nations League, while Poland will join Croatia and Italy in League A.

Scotland's Nations League Campaign

Scotland began their Nations League campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Ukraine in Glasgow.

They then drew 1-1 with the Republic of Ireland in Dublin before losing 3-0 to Ukraine in Krakow.

Victory over Armenia in Yerevan was followed by a 1-0 home defeat to the Republic of Ireland, meaning Scotland needed to beat Poland to stay in League A.

What's Next For Scotland?

Scotland's next match is a friendly against Turkey in Diyarbakir on November 16.

They will then face Cyprus in Larnaca on March 24, 2023, before beginning their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign in March 2023.
